‘Knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom,’ Aristotle
‘A quiet mind is all you need,’ Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj
Nearly thirty years ago, a friend handed me a copy of a small book that radically changed my life. It’s no exaggeration to say that it completely turned my world upside down and brought incredible miracles in my experience. That book was called ‘The Infinite Way’, written by an American mystic called Joel Goldsmith. What the book showed me was that everything we see in our daily life is not solid and tangible, but rather impermanent and in a constant state of flux, being at it’s very essence pure Spirit. Listening within and deepening my awareness led me to appreciate what’s really here and what isn’t. I learnt that by stilling my thoughts and becoming fully present, I could rapidly experience a far more harmonious existence.
When life brings challenges and I don’t have the answers, I stand back and adopt two methods. Firstly, I recognise that the entire human world is an ongoing play of karma and I’ve found turning to the occult sciences, such as astrology, extremely helpful in putting into context whatever I’m faced with. Understanding that appearances will unfold according to the wisdom of an infinite Intelligence, just as they are meant to, gives me the peace I need to be able to let that force reveal the harmony I’m seeking. And this doesn’t only help me, it also has a positive impact on everyone else in my consciousness.
The key, I’ve found, is to stop – to pause and impartially observe all my thoughts and reactions by becoming inwardly still. Doing this on my own is helpful, but meditating with others can be far more powerful and effective. You can feel the sense of calmness and tranquillity emitted by the group. On your own, it’s easy to give up or get distracted, but within a group, you’re much more likely to persevere and feel supported. When meditating, you access a higher consciousness within yourself, and doing this with others, the experience is intensified. I run meditation groups for this precisely this reason, so I can share the wisdom that’s brought miracles and blessings into my life with everyone else.
Meditation and mindfulness have numerous benefits: they bring inner calmness, regulate sleep, strengthen the immune system, improve the quality of relationships, amongst others. This has certainly been the case for me, instilling me with a deep sense of peace that helped restore my self-esteem and joy of living. Anyone can meditate in their own way, regardless of age, background or religious beliefs. It also has a huge impact on the environment, as the power of coming together consciously connects us at a deeper level. Meditating on your own or as part of a meditation community, can give a real sense of collectively making a profound change in the world. Knowing yourself – your true Self – makes all the difference and that’s where the expertise of Proxima Astrology can really help. Understanding our Oneness and the ebb and flow of the Divine rhythm that manifests as our experience has the potential to radically heal. In the words of Anthony Douglas Williams, armed with this knowledge: ‘Imagine what humanity could become if seven billion souls lived together in unison with a sea of love in every heart…’
